Cooling Cities — Old and New
Didier Holleaux, Executive Vice President, Engie
December 2018 | Interview
“We have refurbished an area [in Manila] with existing buildings and provided a new district cooling to provide more than 25% energy efficiency.”
A district cooling system is more efficient than individual airconditioners — and not limited to new cities. Electric utility
multinational Engie has installed such setups in the historical
centre of Paris and in the Philippines, helping them save energy
through better management and tapping on alternative sources
such as waste heat and geothermal energy.
